Economics Office and Publications

 


ASCCI Economics Office is responsible for producing a number of quarterly economics publications and public policy manuals and monographs. The economics publications articles are contributed by the ASCCI International Economics Advisory Board, which comprises of international economists and experts.

The publications enjoy readership from various Heads of States, Government Ministers, Ambassadors, Director Generals, CEOs and Directors of major institutions, Vice-Chancellors and Principals of Universities as well as various policy decision makers.

ASCCI Economics Publications include amongst others, the following:

SADC Economic Digest
Digests are public policy manual (released throughout a year) that cover many and diverse public policy issues. They provide the necessary support material for the writing of Green and White papers, giving an in-depth account of economic affairs in Southern Africa, concentrating on the viability of global trade, and expanding the understanding of decision and policymakers on critical politico-economic issues pertinent to the region’s business environment. A joint consultative process with members and the SADC Secretariat is critical to ensure broad –based consensus and smoother underlying basis for dialogue in economic and public policy debates and formulation between governments in the region and ASCCI.

SADC Governance and Economic Freedom Report
This is an annual report to draw on accredited public sources, including central statistical agencies, multilateral organisations, and specialized research bodies, to publish numerical indices of governance and economic freedom in the SADC region.

The report serves as a formal contribution to policy and decision-makers in quantifying progress on the institutional, policy, and entrepreneurial-enabling environment of SADC countries. The country-by-country report allows ASCCI and its individual members to enter into an informed policy dialogue with regional governments individually, and in total, on critical issues of economic and business regulations and the relation they bear for the cost of doing business in the region.

SADC Economic Governance Periodicals©
A series of monographs covering cutting edge areas in public policy debate and formulation. In the immediate to medium term the following are scheduled for release:

SADC Economic Digest©
An annual economic report on the SADC Region. Each edition gives an in-depth account of the competitive environment of the region, also providing a statistical compendium on the
Southern African market from diverse and accredited sources collated into a single user friendly publication to aid regional analysis and facilitate readily accessible information on industrial performance.

ASCCI Regional Business Climate Survey©
An annual survey of the business conditions existing in the SADC Region performed on an institutional basis across the member chambers of ASCCI giving continuous information on
the business environment in which SADC enterprises operate as a formal contribution to Regional governmental efforts to structure a favourable business regulatory environment in the Region.

ASCCI Business Policy Events©
Annually in conjunction with international and multilateral partners or on its own ASCCI hosts a number of high-end / high-level economic policy events on the SADC business
calendar. These offer exceptional speakers and networking opportunities as well as capitalising on ASCCI being the sole or only preferred launching partner of choice for Africa in general and Southern Africa and its member States particularly.
The events include:

  • ASCCI – Heritage Foundation and Wall Street Journal Index of Economic Freedom Report annual launch;
  • ASCCI – United Nations Industrial Development Organisation Industrial Development Report annual launch;
  • ASCCI – United Nations Conference on Trade and Development World Investment Report annual launch;
  • ASCCI Regional Business Climate Survey annual launch;
  • ASCCI Annual Political Economy Lecture on Economic Freedom. This is the highlight of ASCCI’s economic events. It is a set piece lecture offering a cutting edge policy view on the competitive nature of market order and its implications for the wellbeing of society in the SADC Region as well as globally. The lectures are delivered by a leading personality, scholar or commentator from the applied economic and public
    policy domain from within Africa, the SADC Region, or abroad. Each delegate would receive their personally bound and published Lecture to commemorate their
    participation.

Other Publications
Various other publications will be launched during the middle of 2007 and all our members will be notified in due course and will each receive a set of publications as and when they
are published.
