SADC Regional Business Climate Survey (RBCS)
ASCCI in partnership with ASPB, a German Technical and
Assistance Fund, conducts an annual survey in the region in
order to establish conditions in which business is conducted
in the respective countries in the region.
This in an annual business survey about the on-the-ground
operations of individual enterprises in the SADC members of
ASCCI. At present the survey is published in conjunction with
the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GTZ).
The main objectives of the RBCS are:
-
Strengthening public-private sector dialogue.
- Strengthen the relationship of private sector organisations
with their members.
- Monitoring the business climate across the SADC region.
- Developing a sustainable Business Climate model for the
SADC region for measuring regional integration.
- Empowering National Business Umbrella Organisations to
develop Business Climate Surveys for domestic advocacy
purposes.

Mr. Jaimie Byron (FIFA) and Danny Jordaan (LOC - 2010 World Cup). |
Other key areas include:
-
Respondents expect employment to remain mostly unchanged
or to increase marginally.
- Investors and entrepreneurs are still more confident in
developing their businesses domestically than in other SADC
countries.
- Respondents expect a higher exports revenue yield from
countries within the SADC region.
In 2004 and 2005 more than 300 companies in the region
participated in the survey and in 2006 more than 500 companies
participated.
It is anticipated that up to 1 000 companies will participate
in the 2007 survey as the awareness and the value of the
report of the survey increases.

The survey results have helped ASCCI, its members and the
general private sector to successfully lobby SADC Secretariat
and the various national governments in the region to improve
the environments for doing business in their respective countries.
The survey has also encouraged foreign direct investment as
well as domestic investments to increase with many international
companies starting to invest heavily in the region.
